In-School

LIGHT offers a wide variety of in-school programs in partnership with school districts, nonprofit organizations, community libraries, and storytellers. Since we use the “CoDesign” approach, allowing educators and students to take an active role in the program design process, no two programs are identical. Categories include:

Out-of-School

Helping students to experience the world outside their school district is a critical part of a well-rounded education. LIGHT’s out-of-school programs are CoDesigned to meet the wants and needs of individual school districts. Examples include:

e.g. the annual Woodland Hills Student Leadership Summit, Shaler Area Celebration of Storytelling, Eradicate Hate student summit, Carlynton Women’s Empowerment Summit, Upper Saint Clair Global Education Week, Montour’s Poetry Slam, Baldwin Whitehall’s Remembrance Vigil, and Prime Stage Theatre’s Global Classroom.

to the Millvale Murals of Maxo Vanka, Holocaust Center of Pittsburgh, Chatham University, Tree of Life synagogue site, City of Asylum’s Alphabet City, and the August Wilson African American Cultural Center.

e.g. SLB Studios at the Children’s Museum, the Flight 93 Memorial, Heinz History Center, local community libraries, Johnstown Flood Museum, Donora Smog Museum, and the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum.

offered in the evening in community spaces, like local libraries, to give families and community members access to the same educational programs as the students, often organized and run by students.
